Shopify SEO Services — built for Google and AI search
Most Shopify SEO work stops at rankings. Ours does that and the next thing: getting your store named inside the answers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews give when someone asks what to buy. Technical fixes, product and collection optimisation, schema, and the AEO/GEO layer almost no Shopify SEO agency is selling yet.
Four workstreams, running together
The first three are what any competent Shopify SEO agency should be doing. The fourth is the one that decides whether you exist in an AI answer, and almost nobody is selling it yet.
Technical Shopify SEO
Shopify hands you fast hosting and clean HTTPS, then hands you a URL structure that makes the same product reachable at three addresses. We fix canonicals at the theme level, control parameter and filter crawl paths, prune the thin auto-generated collections that dilute your crawl budget, repair the sitemap where apps have polluted it, and get site speed back under control — which on most stores means removing apps rather than adding one.
Product & collection page optimisation
Collection pages carry the commercial queries and are usually the emptiest pages on a Shopify store: a heading, a filter bar and a grid. We give them the content the query deserves — buying context, comparison, the questions the category actually gets asked. On product pages we rewrite titles and descriptions to rank and to be quotable, and fill in the specification detail that both a hesitant shopper and an AI agent need before committing.
Shopify schema markup
Product, Offer, AggregateRating and Review, BreadcrumbList, FAQPage and Organization — emitted once, from the theme, with correct availability, price and currency for every variant. The most common state we find is not missing schema but duplicated schema: the theme outputs one set, an SEO app injects a second, and the two disagree. Search engines discount the lot. We consolidate to a single source of truth.
AEO & GEO — getting cited by AI
Answer Engine Optimisation and Generative Engine Optimisation are the work of getting your store named inside the answer rather than in the list under it. In practice: entity clarity so an engine is certain who your brand is, comparison and buying-guide content written in extractable passages, structured data that removes the guesswork, and citations in the third-party sources your category's answers already draw from. Measured monthly against a fixed prompt set, in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, reported as how often you are named and who is named instead.
Shopify SEO, AEO and GEO — what each one is
They share a foundation, which is why we run them as one engagement rather than two retainers. A store an engine cannot crawl or parse is neither rankable nor citable, so the technical work serves both. Where they diverge is what happens after that — and that half is the discipline we have been building since 2023. If you want the theory before the pitch, the GEO Learning Center sets it out for free, and AI Search Optimization is the standalone programme for brands that are not on Shopify.
The Shopify SEO problems we fix
Six failures account for most of what holds a Shopify store back. If you recognise three of them, an audit will pay for itself.
Thin collection pages
A heading, a filter bar and a product grid is not a page. It ranks for nothing and gives an AI engine nothing to quote.
Duplicate collection and variant URLs
The same product at /products/x, /collections/a/products/x and ?variant=. Canonicals exist by default and themes break them routinely.
Product descriptions from the supplier
The same paragraph as forty other stores. Nothing to rank with, and nothing an engine would cite you rather than them for.
Missing or duplicated schema
No Product markup, or two conflicting sets from the theme and an app. Both cost you rich results.
A theme carrying twelve apps
Every app adds script. Core Web Vitals fail, and the usual remedy proposed is a thirteenth app.
No visibility in AI answers
You rank. The answer above the results names three competitors and not you. Nothing in a standard SEO retainer addresses this.
Everything in the retainer
How the engagement runs
The same six steps every Growth Marketing engagement runs on, with the AI-visibility baseline folded into step two.
Shopify SEO, and the two things either side of it
This page is for stores already on Shopify. If you are on WooCommerce, Magento or a custom build, eCommerce SEO is the same discipline without the platform-specific half — the collection URL and theme-app problems above simply do not exist elsewhere in that form.
Before this: if the store itself needs building or rebuilding, Shopify development comes first. There is little point optimising a theme we are about to replace.
After this: being cited in AI answers is not the same as being bought from by an AI agent. Agentic commerce for Shopify covers the catalogue data, knowledge base and checkout wiring that decide the second one.
What we bring to it
We were doing classic SEO for the best part of a decade before generative engines existed, which is exactly why we do not sell AI visibility as a replacement for it. Every engagement opens with a free audit documenting your before-state — rankings, technical debt, schema coverage, and how the major AI engines answer buying questions in your category today. Client references for your sector are available on request.
